Mr. Warren Donald Comins, 80, of Robinson Street, Canajoharie, New York died Monday, March 27, 2017 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany from lung disease. Born on April 1, 1936 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Ezra and Mary Comins. He was a graduate of Sharon Springs High School, Class of 1956. Following High School Warren joined the US Navy and served for 4 years, returning home in 1960. Mr. Comins worked for Beech-Nut and then Lifesavers in Canajoharie until the plant closed in 1987. He later became self-employed, doing paintings in the area. In 1989 he worked at Arkell Hall on the maintenance crew, retiring in 1998. Warren, aka Papa, was a devoted husband, grandfather, great-grandfather who will be severly missed. Mr. Comins was a member of the Canajoharie Reformed Church, where he also served as a Custodian. Warren was married to Lois Holmes in 1964. They have 2 children, Dianne Comins Barrett of Oregon, and Donald Martin, who predeceased him August 1, 2005. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica (John) Ferguson of Canajoharie, Skyler Martin Comins of Lake Placid, NY, Ruby Barrett of Oregon, NY; great-grandchildren, Johnathan Robert and Aubrey Rose Ferguson of Canajoharie, NY; brother, Robert (Sandy) Comins of Glenville; many nieces, and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 4:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Matt Draffen officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 2:00-4:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a fund has been set up for Warren's grandchildren and great-grandchildren's college education at NBT Bank in Canajoharie.
