Mrs. Virginia Crystal Jewell, 78, of McEwan Road, Canajoharie, New York passed away, Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Palatine Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 29, 1940 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Earl Bowerman and Crystal Moyer Bowerman. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1958 and was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Jewell was a Swimming Aide at Canajoharie Central School for many years. She also worked for Beech-Nut in Canajoharie from 1958-1964. She was a member of Marshville Evangelical Church. Mrs. Jewell was a loved wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed golfing, trips to the casino, and she was an avid bowler. As her family was growing up they would often camp at Peck's Lake and Piseco Lake, creating many wonderful memories. On September 9, 1961 at The Marshville Evangelical Church, Virginia was married to Daniel H. Jewell. Mrs. Jewell is survived by her husband, Daniel H. Jewell of Canajoharie, NY; son, Todd Jewell and Caroline of Canajoharie, NY; daughter, Tammy Hagadorn and Timothy of Fort Plain, NY; brother, Michael Bowerman of Fort Plain, NY; granddaughters, Kelsey Hagadorn and Alexis Hagadorn. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 10:00AM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, December 20th from 4:00-7:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Ames Cemetery.
