Mr. Timothy W. Smith, 74, of E. Main Street, Nelliston, NY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 2, 2025.
Born on July 24, 1950, in Little Falls, NY, Tim was the son of the late William McKinley Smith and Bertha S. Lasher Smith. He graduated from Fort Plain High School in 1969 and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1974, achieving the rank of Specialist 5 before his honorable discharge.
Tim dedicated much of his career to Carville National Leather, where he worked for over 20 years, later retiring in 2019 from his role as a packer at the Wal-Mart distribution center in Sharon Springs, NY. He also ran Smith and Son Video Store as a local business owner. A lifelong resident of the area, Tim was known for his strong work ethic and community ties.
In his free time, Tim found joy in riding motorcycles, home projects, traveling, and building universal models. On December 31, 1971, he married Yong Cha Smith at the American Embassy in Seoul, Korea. She predeceased him on February 21, 2011. In addition to his wife and parents, Tim was predeceased by his brothers Edward, Earl, Leslie, Guy, and Alvin Smith.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Yun, and her husband, Brian Johnson; his son, Steven J. Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Fort Plain Cemetery. Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice in Tim's memory.
