Mrs. Ruby M. Craver, 92, of Fort Plain, NY, most recently of the Palatine Nursing Home, passed away July 14, 2021. Ruby was born in Canajoharie, NY on August 1, 1928 the daughter of the late John and Opal Schwabrow Swank. She was educated at area country schools, and spent her entire life time in the local area. Ruby was most proud of her time spent helping her father on the far, but has also worked as a nanny for families in Utica and Gloversville. At other points in her life she was employed at LaSalle Labs, and in the kitchen at the Montgomery Co Home, in Yosts, as well as the kitchen at Palatine Nursing Home. Ruby loved to take pictures, enjoyed collecting dolls, coloring pictures, watching baseball and NASCAR, but always looked forward to taking care of children and hanging with the girls at the 5s diner. On November 29, 1958 she married Carl Craver who passed away in 1967. She was also pre-deceased by her sisters Louise Bateholte, Ileen Surnear, Rita King, and Barbara Stowell; and brother John Swank. She is survived by her son; Michael and his wife Theresa Craver; Daughter Lind and her husband Richard Fredericks; Brother Earl Swank; 5 Grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; a special niece Nancy Weaver; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Monday July 19th, 2021 at the chapel of Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The family will receive friends and family prior to the funeral from 11:00am-1:00PM. Burial will take place following the funeral at Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown.
