Mr. Roger R. Crews Sr, 87, of State Route 80, Fort Plain, NY, passed away at home early in the evening of November 30, 2025, with his family by his side.
Roger was born on September 5, 1938, in Adams, Mass., the son of the late Cecil and Pearl Andrews Crews.
He attended school in Canajoharie, at one point being in a one-room schoolhouse.
For over 40 years, he was the owner and operator of Roger Crews Scrap and Salvage in Fort Plain, NY. He was also the owner of the 5s diner, which his family ran.
He spent most of his lifetime in the local area and enjoyed bowling in his younger years.
On September 28, 1957, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Plain, NY, he married Harriet Hogan, who predeceased him on February 16, 1997.
He was also predeceased by his son, Roger "Fred" Crews, Jr., brothers Clifford, Jim, and Richard Crews; sisters Helen Katovich, Barbara Peddrick, and Contance D'Archangelis; son-in-law John Riddle; and girlfriend Nancy Roosevelt.
Survivors include his daughters, Brenda Dawson, Tammy Konik (Joe), Ellen Riddle, and daughter-in-law Linda Wainwright; sister Linda West; grandchildren Joshua Crews, Randy Crews, Jason Dawson, Renee Battisti, Jolene Stallman, Joseph Konik, III, Stephanie Riddle, and Justin Riddle.; great-grandchildren Jacob, Kayden, Bailey, Zoey, Lucas, Colton, Adalyn, and Alastor; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Graveside funeral will be held at Fort Plain Cemetery on May 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Everyone is invited to attend.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the health aids that helped keep Roger home through the years, with a special thank you to his nephew, Tony Crews, for all his time and efforts that made it possible.
