Mr. Peter J. VanWie, 93, of Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, New York died Sunday, May 1, 2022 at his home.

Born on May 7, 1928 in Canajoharie, NY, he was the son of William VanWie and Charlotte Kougher VanWie. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1944. Peter was a resident of Canajoharie from 1928-2003 then Inverness, FL from 2003-2016 before moving to Amsterdam.

He worked for Arkell & Smith, Creamery, Arkell Hall as a Groundsman, Briggs Lumberyard, and John Woods Insurance, retiring in 1990.

On May 12, 1951 in Canajoharie, NY, Peter was married to Viola Brookman.

His brother, William A. VanWie, Jr. predeceased him.

Peter is survived by his wife, Viola B. VanWie; sister, Ruth V.W. Wisenski of Ocala, FL; daughters, Joan Lawrence (Joseph), Nancy Luscombe (Keith), Linda Sherer (Wayne); son, Kenneth VanWie (Jane); 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and 2 nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
