Paul Brooks
Putnam
Jul 3, 1969 — Nov 1, 2026
On November 1, 2026, after a long battle with numerous health issues, Paul B Putnam was freed from all pain while surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was born on July 3, 1969, to his father, retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Robert W. Putnam, and his beloved mother, Bettye J Brooks Putnam. He was the youngest of five children.
The family settled in Canajoharie, NY, when Paul was young, giving weight to a childhood filled with dear friends, such as Michael Buccolo and William Leamon, both of whom he considered brothers. His youth was spent playing basketball, fishing, causing chaos and laughs and love. He loved bowling, playing pool, and never passed up the chance to play cards or dice with his family and friends. He was an avid lover of sports and was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, no matter how much he was lovingly picked on for it.
Paul graduated from Canajoharie High School and then graduated with a business degree from Bryant and Stratton Business Institute in Syracuse, New York. He returned to the local area and worked for various businesses where he met more cherished friends along the way. Most notably, while being a manager at Rent-A-Vision in Amsterdam and, most recently, at Walmart, DC in Johnstown. He provided himself greatly as a compassionate and empathetic leader at work just as he was in his home life.
Paul was a family man through and through. No one cared for or loved their family as much as he did. His home was open to all who needed it at any time. This did not just mean his friends or family, but more often than not many of his daughter's friends over the years who considered his home to be their second home. He loved them as his own.
His daughters, Ashley and Kiara were his entire world, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Nothing brought him greater happiness than being a father and a grandfather. When he said his girls were his best friends, he’d never spoken truer words.
Though Paul is now reunited in heaven with his dearly departed parents, his best friend and brother Gregg, and many other loved ones lost over the years, he has survived by many who will keep his memory and love alive:
Dearest daughters Ashley Putnam (Peter Krug Jr.) and Kiara Gupta (Sumit Gupta). Cherished grandchildren Audrey, Logan and Connor Krug. Beloved siblings Robert Putnam (Shelley), Robin (Gordy) Clark, and Becky Hagadorn. Best friend and brother at heart, Michael Buccolo. As well as many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He lives on through us all. Forever whole, forever loved, forever home.
The family would like to thank Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home for the support and services they have provided for our family. Yet again, we cannot express our full gratitude. They would also like to thank the many healthcare workers who gave Paul the care and kindness he deserved over the years, you will never be forgotten.
There will be no formal memorial services per Paul’s request. There will be a celebration of life in the spring of 2027, plans will be announced closer to that time.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that a donation be made in his name to the HC Smith benefit club of Saint Johnsville, New York to support everything they have done for our family and local community throughout the years.
