Mrs. Nancy M. Larner, 85, of Lafayette Street, Palatine Bridge, New York died Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Born on September 14, 1931 in Saranac Lake, NY, she was the daughter of Walter Meagher and Elizabeth Toole Meagher. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School, Class of 1950, and of St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Amsterdam, NY, Class of 1953, as a Registered Nurse. She had been a resident of the Palatine Bridge area since 1972, previously residing in Gloversville, NY. Mrs. Larner was a substitute school nurse for Canajoharie School until 2000. She taught at the Voe-Tech (Boces) and FMCC Nursing Program. Nancy also worked for Palatine Nursing Home, VA (Sunmount), Tupper Lake, VA Hospital, Albany, and Nathan Littauer Hospital, ending her nursing career in 2000. Mrs. Larner was a previous board member and secretary of Canajoharie Community Services, Inc. She was a member of the NLH Auxiliary, and St. Mary's Alumni. Nancy enjoyed helping Tim and Chuck at Johnstones Florist, answering the phone, writing out cards, and helping customers, following her retirement from nursing. She restored and lived at Fort Frey from 1972-2008. On February 15, 1958 in St. Joseph's Church in Scotia, NY, Nancy was married to P. Kingston Larner, MD. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1994. Her sisters, Bernadette Meagher, Betty Biggar; and 2 grandsons, Eric Simonds, and Paul Simonds also predeceased her. Mrs. Larner is survived her three adopted children from her husband's first marriage, Paul (Sarah) of St. Albans Bay, VT, Anne Briner (Russell) of Stratford, NY, Robin C. Larner of Rochester, NY; daughter, Elizabeth (John) Shostek; grandson, Samuel Shostek of Myrtle Beach, SC; two sisters, Maureen (Alan) Pidgeon of S. Hero, VT, and Judith Meagher of Saranac Lake, NY; longtime friend, Bill W.; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 3:00PM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the funeral from 12:00 Noon until the service at 3:00 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery, Saranac Lake, NY. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Nancy M.
