Obituary

Mildred "Vonnie" Baker, 74, of Canajoharie, NY, passed away on March 1, 2026, at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown, with her loving family by her side following a ten-year battle with cancer.


She was born in Ilion, NY, on January 7, 1952, the daughter of George and Mildred Becker Armstrong, both of whom predeceased her.


She was educated at Mount Markham School, West Winfield, NY.


Vonnie lived in the local area her entire lifetime. She enjoyed holiday get-togethers, loved being with her children and grandchildren, and, in her younger years, bowling, horseshoes, and barbecue get-togethers at the lakes. Although she enjoyed all these things, she had an ultimate pastime of hitting all the casinos across the country.


On May 16, 1969, in Lasselville, NY, she married Kenneth W. Baker, Sr. Together they shared 56 years.


She was predeceased in death by: her grandson, Bo M. Baker; in-laws, Lyman and Eva Baker; brother-in-law, Manley Baker; brother, George Armstrong, Jr. (Sonny); sister, Virginia King; sister, Margaret Wildey (Cissyann); sister, Jeannie Wildey; sister, Suzanne Crossman; and a sister, Debbie Fontaine.


Survivors include children; Ken Baker, Jr. Theresa of Oriskany Falls, Bruce Baker(Stacie) Canajoharie, Jason Baker (Marietta) Bursnville, MN; grandchildren Dustin (Marissa) Baker of Waterville, Brent Baker of Oriskany Falls, Courtney Baker, (Mike) of South Carolina, Jordan Baker (Megan) of Utica, Caitlyn Baker, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Falon Baker (Tyler)of Canajoharie, NY Brittany Baker (Matt) of MN, Gabrielle Baker, of MN, Nikki Baumer (Aaron) of WI; greatgrandchildren Beau, Cali, Melanie, Zethlon, AriAnna, Kamirynn, Riley, Raven, and Jase;  sisters Diane Gilbert (Tom) of West Winfield, Darlene Williams (Alan) of Ilion, Sherry Strickland (Daryl) of Florida, Kathy Armstrong (Kelly) of West Exeter; brother David Armstrong (Diane) of Unadilla Forks; brother in law Roger (Diane) of Ephratah, NY as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.


In accordance with Vonnies' wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
