Obituary

Mr. Michael Harhay, 92, formerly of Canajoharie, NY, most recently of Esperance , New York, passed away on September 14th, 2023, at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, NY.

He was born on November 30, 1930, in Poland, the son of John and Anna Polumackanycs Harhay, both whom predeceased him. He graduated from Canajoharie High School, Class of 1950, where he earned Salutatorian of his class. He had studied to become an electrician at Herkimer County Community College.

From September 1951 until his discharge in June 1953 he proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, obtaining the rank of Corporal.

Michael was a superintendent while employed at Lifesavers, Canajoharie, retiring in 1990.

Most of his life was spent living in the local area, being here for over 78 years of it.

Mike loved when his 5 nieces and nephews came to visit and lasting memories were made for all of them. When Nintendo was released, Mike designated a room to become the "Play Room". One tv and game console soon multiplied to 2. A little-known fact was that Mike became a gamer, enjoying strategy games. He was the masterchef of BBQ chicken and enjoyed setting up outdoor barbecues for family and friends. These were followed by competitive wiffle ball games, Mike always acting as pitcher. Shadow, his cat, was Mike's soft spot and he loved the quiet times with Shadow on his lap.

Survivors include, his sister Mary Ann and her husband Jotham Trafton, his brother Andrew and his wife Lynn Harhay; two nieces, Kimberly Olszewski and Kirsten Baleno; and three nephews Scott Trafton, Brian Harhay and Christopher Harhay.
