Mr. Mark VanAlstine,58, of Canajoharie, NY died on October 28th, 2023, at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home following a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Sprakers, NY on October 25, 1965, the son of the late David A. VanAlstine and Irene Nilo VanAlstine.

Mark graduated from Canajoharie High School, class of 1983.

Shortly after graduation he joined the US Navy. After serving in the Navy, he went to work at the Montgomery Co. Jail as a corrections officer, from which he retired.

He spent most of his life in the local Canajoharie area, and was a member of the BPOE Eagles, Canajoharie Moose Lodge # 853, and the Fort Plain VFW #3275, as well as their memorial squad. He also enjoyed riding his Harley and being with his grandchildren.

On November 27, 2004, in Canajoharie NY he married Brenda Rollins, she predeceased him on December 8, 2021.

He was also predeceased by his brother Dan VanAlstine.

Survivors include his sons, Chris VanAlstine, Raymond VanAlstine and Joseph Jacques, daughters Tara Esslinger and Jessica Saltsman; brother David VanAlstine; sisters Antasia VanAlstine, Kathleen VanAlstine, Colleen VanAlstine; grandchildren Zoey and David Saltsman; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday November 3nd, 2023, from 10:00-12:00 with a funeral will take place at 12:00pm at the Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, Inc. 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, NY
