Obituary

Mrs. Margaret Salamone, 96, of Barclay Street, Canajoharie, New York passed away, Friday, September 14, 2018 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, following a brief illness. Born on February 26, 1922 in Flat Creek, NY, she was the daughter of Cesare Rappa and Maria Grazia D'Amico Rappa. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School. She lived in Flushing, Queens returning to the Canajoharie area in 1989. Mrs. Salamone worked in sales for many years, starting her employment with Gertz Department Store in Flushing, which then became Federated, and then Sterns Department Store, which is where she retired from. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain. Mrs. Salamone was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed going to garage sales, collecting Hummels, gardening, and cooking. She was a great cook and was famous for her meatballs. Margaret was married on January 24,1942 at the former St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church in Canajoharie to Peter Salamone, II. He preceded her in death on August 18, 1988. Her grandson, Peter Salamone, IV; 3 sisters, Anna Rappa Lamanna, Marian Donatucci, Mary Smith; and 3 brothers, Zeke, Christopher, and John Rappa also predeceased her. Mrs. Salamone is survived by her son, Peter J. Salamone, III of Canajoharie, NY; granddaughter, Patricia J. and Timothy J. Mormile of Wylie, TX; 3 great-grandsons, Nicholas, Matthew, and Christian Mormile of Wylie, TX; as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Noon at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 11:00-12:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Margaret Salamone may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memorial & Honor Program-F, 501 St. Jude Place, TN 38105-1905.
