Luke Eric Smith, 51, of Cooperstown, NY, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

He was born in Amsterdam, NY, on January 19, 1975, the son of the late Dale Smith and Dorothy Anne Dillon (Carter) and the late Norman Carter (stepfather). He was raised in Canajoharie, NY, and spent his school years as an active member of the many music programs of the Canajoharie School system.

Luke played the drums and guitar for local cover bands during and after high school and remained an avid musician.

After years spent in Knoxville, TN, with family, Luke returned to upstate NY, where he found home in Cooperstown. He enjoyed gaming, collecting memorabilia, and gardening.

Luke is survived by his mother, Dorothy Anne Carter; stepmother, Cheryl Smith; siblings, Meeghan Carroll and Matt (Jenna) Carter, and loving niece (Meara) and nephews (Ethan, Daelan, Ia,n and Asher).

A family memorial will be held privately in early summer.
