Obituary

Mr. Leslie R. Chase, Sr., 82, of Canal Street, Fort Plain, New York passed away unexpectedly, on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.


Born on June 1, 1936 in the Town of Fulton, NY, he was the son of Clifford Chase and Lettie Hadsell Chase.  He attended a one room schoolhouse in Binton, and was a lifetime area resident.


Most recently he was a Supervisor for Beech-Nut/LifeSavers, for over 20 years, retiring in 1993.


Mr. Chase was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Reservist for several years after the war.


He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #853 of Canajoharie for over 50 years.  He was a former member of the Boiling Pot Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles #3846 and he was a member of the Cherry Valley Fish & Game.


On December 31, 1988 in Middlefield, NY, he was married to Mildred Proper.


Mr. Chase is predeceased by his first wife, Mary Madl; grandchildren, Vincent Chase, Matthew Chase; as well as siblings, Marion Bruce, Viola Pitt, Catherine Kern, Hilda Graham, Ella Davis, Clifford Chase, Robert Chase, Loretta Williams, Dorothy Stanton, Sarah Chase, George Mabie, Clarence Mabie, Ina Mabie.


Mr. Chase is survived by his wife, Mildred Chase of Fort Plain, NY; 10 children, Brenda & Rick Little of Meco, NY, Leslie & Cindy Chase, Jr. of Ames, NY, Steven & Laurie Chase of Fort Plain, NY, David & Dawn Chase of Fort Plain, NY, Donna & Tom Ward of Palatine Bridge, NY, Denice & Harris of Fort Plain, NY, Sandra & Ben Gunther of Oneonta, NY, Richard Hotaling of NC, Timothy & Pam Hotaling of South Valley, NY, Peggy Wells & Jeremy Lowe of Unadilla, NY; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Dora Mae Humprey of Speculator, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 11:00AM at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 10:00-11:00AM at the funeral home.  Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery with Military Honors at graveside.
