Obituary

Keith D. Seeber, 89, of Fort Plain, NY, died August 13, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 30, 1933 in Fort Erie, Ontario, he was the son of Albert Fuller and Irene Symonds Seeber. He was a 1951 graduate of Fort Erie High School and continued his education by taking art classes at local colleges. On March 21, 1959, at Deerhurst Presbyterian Church in Kenmore, NY, Keith married Caroline Helen Miller.

He was an earnest world traveler, venturing out at a young age, and eventually resided with his wife and children in Arizona, South Dakota, Washington, British Columbia, Australia, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and New Hampshire, before settling in Fort Plain in 1986.

Keith worked in design and as a contract estimator in the construction industry. In earlier years, at various stages, he owned a nursery business, boarding kennel, art gallery, and also worked for the Canadian Forestry Service. Ultimately self-employed, he and Caroline owned and managed their own business in miniature reproductions, creating and marketing the entire inventory themselves.

Very interested in family genealogy, he moved to the Mohawk Valley to further research his family, who had settled there in the early 1700s. He had a lifelong interest in stamp collecting, gardening, botany, and model railroads, and was constructing scenery and buildings for an historically accurate circa 1900 Mohawk Valley model train layout. He was also an accomplished painter, woodworker, and overall craftsman.

Equally active in retirement, Keith was a dedicated member and chairperson of the board of the Fort Plain Free Library and was instrumental in its recent renovations and expansion. With an insatiable intellect and thirst for knowledge, Keith loved reading, art, music, and history. If he were in a room full of books, he could have lived three more lifetimes.

Keith was a devoted husband and father. He is preceded in death by his wife Caroline in 2010 and their eldest son Kyle Douglas in 2011. He is survived by his son Todd Seeber and wife Sarah of Newton, MA; daughter Kimberly and husband Richard Bradway of Stockbridge, MA; daughters-in-law Mary Darlene of CA and Susan of MA; and grandchildren Nicholas Seeber, Henry Bradway, Kennett Porter, Eric Porter, and Emmalee Porter.

Keith was dearly loved by all who knew him, both family and friends, and will be truly missed.
