Mr. John Richard Geweye, 37, of Otsego Street, Canajoharie, New York, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at his home. Born on July 15, 1978 in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of John Robert Geweye and Sandra Anthony. John received his Associate's Degree from HVCC in Chemical Dependency Counseling. He spent most of his life in the local area. John worked as a drug rehab counselor for the Hospitality House in Albany for several years. He was of Catholic faith. John had a love and talent for working with computers. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. His maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents predeceased him. John is survived by his mother, Sandra Anthony and Dennis Conrad of Palatine Bridge, NY; father, John Robert Geweye of Fort Plain, NY; maternal grandmother, Mary Anthony of Palatine Bridge, NY; brother, Willis Geweye of Herkimer County, NY; aunt, Gail Castellano of FL; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 5:00-7:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with a memorial service following at 7:00pm. Burial will take place privately at the convenience of the family in St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Cemetery.
