Mrs. Jennie J Laux, 93, of Miller Drive, Canajoharie, New York passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, following a brief illness. Jennie was born on December 22, 1924 in Aliquippa, PA she was the daughter of Albert Valenti and Giacomina Saglio Ponchi. Jennie was a lifelong caregiver, dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also a graduate of Gilboa-Conesville High school. She became a resident of Canajoharie in 1966, moving from Gilboa. In her spare time Jennie enjoyed gardening, reading, watching birds and deer, and sitting by the warmth of her woodstove, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. On January 15th 1951 in Grand Gorge, NY she married Mr. Robert W. Laux, who predeceased her on March 23, 1998. She was also predeceased by her brother, Gaetano "Tony" Valenti. Survivors include one son, Larry M. and his wife, Patty Laux of Canajoharie, NY; two daughters, Linda J. and Alan Scott of Fultonville, NY, Lisa A. and Michael Dean of Canajoharie, NY; six grandchildren, Tracy Yurkewecz, Adam Scott, Jennifer Yerkes, Laura Fiato, Steven Laux, Ian Scott; eight great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 10:00AM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otesgo Street, Canajoharie, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 4:00-7:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.
