Mr. James A. Tompkins, 67, of Esperance, New York, died April 19, 2025, at Albany Medical Center.

Born June 12, 1957, in Sprakers, NY, he was the son of Clarence E. and Regina M. Downing Tompkins.

He graduated from Canajoharie High School, class of 1975.

James worked numerous jobs, loved the outdoors, and a nice cold beer.

He was a member of the Christian Church of Charleston Four Corners.

Mr Tompkins was predeceased by his parents and brothers Edward C. Tompkins and William E. Tompkins.

James is survived by his sons: Jamey Tompkins (Jodie) of Denver, NC, James Tompkins (Heather) of Johnstown, NY, Derek Tompkins of Canajoharie, NY, Ryan A. Tompkins of Fort Plain, NY, Matthew Zielnicki of Mechanicville, NY Shawn Selmandine of Albany, NY Jason Zaetz of Amsterdam, NY, a daughter Jennifer Martin, brother Thomas P. Tompkins (John Mastroianni) of Johnstown, NY, very dear friends Marianne Kilar and Tom Castello; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Albany Medical ICU for the outstanding care of James.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.

A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
