Mr. James G. May, 65, of East Main Street, Nelliston, New York died unexpectedly, Sunday, July 23, 2017 at his home.
Born on January 9, 1952 in Suffern, NY, he was the son of Gordon May and Betty Fitzgibbons May. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1970. He spent most of his life in the Fort Plain, Canajoharie area.
Most recently James was working for Fort Plain True Value as a small engine repair technician. He also worked for Springfield Tractor, Del's Tractor Sales, as well as owning and operating the former May's Outdoor Power Equipment of Nelliston.
Jim was a hard worker. He loved NASCAR and was an avid bowler in his younger years, along with his wife.
On June 3, 1972 at The Canajoharie United Methodist Church, James was married to Shirley Darrach. Together they celebrated over 45 years of marriage.
His sister, Carolyn Mabie predeceased him.
Mr. May is survived by his wife, Shirley May of Nelliston, NY; sons, Jimmy May of Nelliston, NY, Tommy May of Canajoharie, NY; grandson, who he helped raise, James May, Jr. of Nelliston, NY; granddaughter, Marissa May of FL; brothers, Stan May, Mike May; sisters, Linda Winnie, Ruth Ellen May; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services for Mr. May are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
