Mr. James "Jamie" Homkey, 51, of Reed Street, Canajoharie, New York died unexpectedly Monday, October 10, 2016. Born on October 22, 1964 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Everett Homkey and Judy Diefendorf Heiser. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1983 and was a lifetime area resident. Mr. Homkey worked for the Town of Canajoharie for over 21 years and for the past several years he had been driving Tow Truck for M.W. Roosevelts & Sons, all while being an amazing Full Time Dad. He also worked for Lindy's Garage. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Freysbush. Mr. Homkey was very active with his children's sports teams and activities. He was a member of the Sprout-Brook Rod & Gun Club and enjoyed Deer hunting. Jamie was particularly active with the Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department, putting on the Big Buck Contest, Ham Fritter Dinners, and Spaghetti Dinners. He helped many people in the local community, earning him the nickname in his family of, "Town Mechanic". On July 25, 1987 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Freysbush, Jamie was married to Michele Smith. Together they celebrated over 29 years of marriage. Jamie was predeceased by his father, Everett Homkey; grandparents, Bob and Barbara Diefendorf; uncle, Denny Diefendorf; aunt, Dawn Diefendorf. Jamie is survived by his mother, Judy and Virgil Heiser of Canajoharie, NY; wife, Michele Homkey of Canajoharie, NY; 2 children, Stephanie Homkey of Fort Plain, NY, Trevor Homkey and fiancé, Gabrielle Brownell of Canajoharie, NY; brother, Brian Homkey of Charleston, SC; 2 sisters, Melissa Homkey of Canajoharie, NY; Barbara and Joe Kilmartin of Fort Plain, NY; grandson, Ethan Homkey; mother-in-law; Bonnie Smith; brothers-in-law, Kevin & Mary Smith, Randy Smith; nieces and nephews, Tyrell Homkey, Alicia Homkey, Amanda Homkey, Becky Tomlinson, Brandon Smith, Christopher Kilmartin, Haley Kilmartin, Daniel Kilmartin; 2 great-nephews, Matthew James Homkey, Dylan Homkey; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:00pm at The Fort Plain Reformed Church, Canal Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating and the Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, from 11:00-1:00pm at The Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY.
