Mr. Harry J. Slater, 74, of St. Johnsville, NY passed away on January 18th, 2023 at St. Mary's Hospital, with family by his side, following a long fought illness.

He was born on August 3, 1948, in Central Bridge, NY, the son of the late Donald and Juanita Partridge Slater.

Most recently he was employed at Herkimer Walmart and before that had worked in local factories and as a mechanic. He recently retired and continued to do odd jobs, keeping busy.

In his spare time, he enjoyed painting by number on glass, mechanic work almost daily, fishing, and visiting with family and friends.

Harry had served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Juanita(Partridge) Slater and his siblings: Linda, Robert, Edna and Frances.

Survivors include his sons: David (Louise) Slater and Michael(Marie) Slater, step-daughters: Amanda(Jason) Bonneau and Carrie(Chris) Schmidtmann, and a step-son, John(Lisa) Carpenter…grandchildren Bernie, Janelle, Gabrielle, Tyler, Quincy, Colin, Jade, EmmaJo, Nyha, Bubba, Kaeleigh, Neesa, Jenny and Danny; along with several nieces and nephews

A special thank you to the staff of St. Mary's  ICU, for the care given to Harry.

Arrangments are entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.

A graveside service will be held in the spring, with military honors   the date and time will be announced.
