Mr. George "Butch" Hogan, 76, of Northern Highland Terrace, Fort Plain, NY, died at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown, NY in the morning of March 18, 2023 with his family by his side. He was born in the Town of Minden on September 24, 1946, the son of the late Oscar and Hattie VanValkenburgh Hogan.
Butch was a graduate of Fort Plain High School.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War.
For over 34 years he was employed as a hyde splitter at the former Wood & Hyde Leather Co., in Gloversville, NY.
He was a life member of the South Minden Fire Dept., serving for over 40 years. In his spare time he enjoyed camping with his family, and fishing with his boys.
On October 21, 1973, at St. John's Lutheran Church, he married Bonnie Crews. They celebrated 49 years together, just missing their 50th anniversary.
He is predeceased in death by his parents; sisters Harriett Crews, and Diane Crouse, and Brother Russell Hogan.
Survivors include, his loving wife, Bonnie Hogan; sons, Daniel Hogan and Stephanie Shippers , Terry and his wife Jessica Hogan, and Robert and his wife Ami; brothers, Richard Hogan, and Charlie Hogan; sisters Elsie Buccolo, Doris Handy, Ruth Triumpo, and Donna Hogan; 7 grandchildren, Matthew, Kayleigh,Travis, Hailey, Tiffany, Brayden and Jake; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family invites friends and relatives to visitation on Saturday March 25, 2023 from 11:00 to 1:00PM with a memorial service following at 1:00PM, with military honors at the funeral, all at the Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
