Obituary

Frederick H Chase Sr., 77, of Fort Plain, NY, passed away on May 2nd, 2026, at home after a long battle with cancer. He was born July 12, 1948, in New Berlin, NY, to Howard Chase and Gladys (Boise) Edwards, stepdad Leslie Edwards, who has predeceased him.


He is survived by his wife of 51 years  Diane "Dolly" Chase (Jones) , Son Frederick Chase Jr. (Amy Mason), daughter Heather (Andy) Cronkhite, daughter Colleen Murphy (Rich Tougas), son Paul (Michele) Maniacek; Grandchildren Lexy Cronkhite, Alex Cronkhite, Freddie Chase III, Lilly Chase, Anna Smith (Murphy), Aaron Murphy, Nicholas Maniacek, and Jonathan Maniacek, one great-grandchild and two on the way, many nephews, and one that he raised as his son, Frank (Shiela) Parshall.


He was predeceased by his brothers Don (Chris) Chase, Ron Chase, Ed Chase, and sister Mary (Bill) Burr.


He grew up and worked at Sulfur Springs Farm in Cherry Valley, NY. Fred worked at the Otesaga Hotel and then at Lifesavers until it closed. Lastly, he worked at the Town of Minden, where he retired.


Fred loved to go ice fishing, hunting, camping, and kept his mind sharp with Sudoku puzzles. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the South Minden Fire Dept, a member of the Elks Lodge in Nelliston, Canajoharie Moose, and helped lay the foundation for the mountain man hunting club and establish it. He also took pride in hosting the Hessville horseshoe league.


A celebration of life will be held on June 6th, 2026, at the South Minden Fire Dept. 1029 sthwy 163; Fort Plain, NY 13339 from 1 pm-5 pm, fresh food will be put out at 1 pm and 3 pm.


Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13317.


Donations in his memory may be directed to the South Minden Fire Dept. or the Ayers Animal Shelter.
