Mrs. Evelyn H. Mahr, 98, of, Mahr Road, Canajoharie, New York, died Saturday, October 29, 2016 at her home. Born on June 12, 1918 in Charleston Four Corners, NY, she was the daughter of Henry Christman and Marcia Vosburgh Christman. She attended Brown's Hollow School. Mrs. Mahr was a mother and homemaker, a career which she thoroghly enjoyed. She also assisted her husband with the family farm. Evelyn was an avid bowler. On April 28, 1934 in Canajoharie, NY, Evelyn was married to Elmer Robert Mahr. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1982. A son, Charles Mahr and 4 brothers also predeceased her. Mrs. Mahr is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Booth of Canajoharie, NY; 2 sons, Alton & Harriet Mahr of The Town of Root, NY, Everett Mahr of Mullinds, SC; sister, Alice Tracey of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister-in-law, Danine Christman of Amsterdam, NY; 7 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 2:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, November 1 from Noon-2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Mapletown Cemetery, Canajoharie, NY.
