Obituary

Mr. David M. Hotaling, 72, of Highland Terrace, Fort Plain, NY, passed away on September 4, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY.


He was born on May 19, 1950, in Cooperstown, NY the son of the late Harry S. Hotaling Sr., and the late Beatrice Baxter Hotaling.


David was a graduate of Canajoharie High School Class of 1969. After graduation he joined the US Airforce. Once he was back in the area he started working at Lifesavers as a gum maker, working there until their closing. After this he went to work at the Penny Saver for a short time, Curtains and Fabrics of Herkimer and Target as a Security Guard until retirement.


He lived his entire lifetime in the local area.


David served in the US Airforce from 1969-1972 during the Vietnam war, with the rank of Sergeant.


He was past commander of the Fort Plain VFW Memorial Squad for many years, past member of the Fort Plain VFW Memorial Squad, a founding member of the Brad Schrell Memorial Squad, member of the AMVETS, American Legion of Little Falls member, past member of the BPOE Eagles, and the Canajoharie Moose. He also loved to bowl.


On January 8, 1972, at the Marshville Evangelical Church he married the former Rene White.


He was pre-deceased by his sister Grace Hotaling, brother Harry Hotaling, sister Marlene Blair, and Son in Law Walter Wnuk.


Survivors include his wife, Rene Hotaling; daughter, Michelle Wnuk; son, Michael Hotaling (Dottie); sister, Beverly Parslow; twin brother, Dannie Hotaling; sister, Crystal Barnes; and his granddaughter, Abby aka Peanut; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.


A funeral service will be held on Thursday September 8th, 2022, at 12:00 noon at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., with a visitation taking place prior from 10:00-12:00.


Burial will follow at Fort Plain Cemetery with military honors by the US Air Force and the Brad Schrell Memorial Squad.
