Mr. Dale L. Smith, 75, of E. Main street, Nelliston, NY, passed away at home unexpetedly on March 24, 2023.

He was born in Delhi, NY, on September 4, 1947 the son of the late Leslie and Wilma Hammon Smith.

Dale graduated from Canajoharie High School, Class of 1965. Shortly after graduation he joined the US Navy, serving in the Vietnam War, with the rank of E-5.

Most recently Dale was employed as a lock operator, for 20 years, working in Fort Plain, Canajoharie, and Cranesville. Before that he also worked as a machine adjuster at Lifesavers, from 1972-1976.

He spent most of his adult life in the local area, and was a member of the Fort Plain VFW, and in his spare time he enjoyed muzzleloading, trap shooting with his muzzleloaders, wood working with his lathe, and carpentry.

On October 31, 1993, at the brides family home he married Cheryl Smith.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his wive's son Jason Canfield.

Survivors include his wife Cheryl; son Luke Smith; daughter Meeghan and her husband Tom; 5 grandchildren, Ethan, Mera, McKenzie, Brianna, Daelan; and several cousins.

A memorial service will take place on Friday March 31, 2023, at 10:00AM, at Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY
