Mrs. Cheryl B. Horning, aged 78, of Canajoharie, NY, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, after a brief illness.

Born on December 2, 1947, in Amsterdam, NY, Cheryl was the beloved daughter of Donald Arraon Baker and Marjorie Grace Fonda Baker. She graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1965 and furthered her education at Albany Business School.

Cheryl dedicated over 25 years to the vital records department of Montgomery County in Fonda, NY, before retiring. An active member of the Canajoharie Methodist Church, she cherished her community and had a passion for reading.

On May 29, 1968, Cheryl married Wayne J. Horning at St. John and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Wayne predeceased her in 2016, along with her daughter Kristina Marie Horning in 1991, and her sisters, Diane and Barbara Baker.

She is survived by her brothers, Jeff (Jill) Baker and Doug Baker; her nephews, Jason (Amanda) Baker and their children, Carson and Andrew; Joshua Baker; and Jordan (Caitlin) Baker and their children, Henry, Ce-Ce, and Ellie.

A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery at a time convenient for the family. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements are in the care of Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home.
