Mr. Alvaro Montanye, 65, of Esperance, NY died at home unexpectedly on January 10, 2023.

He was born in Amsterdam, NY on May 7, 1957, the son of the late Earl Jr., and Florence Montanye.

After graduating high school he went on to work as an automotive repair man, working in many repair shops locally and in the capital district.

He lived his entire lifetime in the local area. In his spare time he could be found working on cars for family and friends, or doing models, hunting or fishing, and was always on the lookout for bald eagles. He also was a member of the Charleston Fire Dept.

He was predeceased in death by his companion of 37 years, Ruth May on December 2, 2022.

He is survived by his daughter, Beth Montanye Smith; son Joshua Albert Leach; grandson Ethan Leach; and a sister Dorothy "Dottie" Proper; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A joint celebration of life will be held in the spring for him and Ruth and will be announced at that time.
