Mr. Alex P. Mereness, 21, of Johnstown, New York died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, January 16, 2021. Born on August 31, 1999 in Cooperstown, NY, he was the son of Patrick Wayne Mereness and Kristy Lynn Marie Sweet. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School, Class of 2018 and was a lifetime local area resident. Alex worked for Runnings in Gloversville and most recently worked for Walmart Distribution Center in Sharon Springs. He loved video gaming, computers, hiking, shooting guns, and collecting knives. He enjoyed rollerblading, playing basketball, and hanging out with his friends. He also enjoyed going out to eat and to the movies with his 2 uncles, Bryan and Darryn. His paternal great-grandfather, Tirso Martagon; maternal great-grandfather, Garry Sweet; and grandmother, Joan Hoyer predeceased him. Alex is survived by his mother, Kristy Lynn Marie Sweet and Matt Livingston; father, Patrick Wayne Mereness; sisters, Amanda Mereness, Brooke Fuhs; brother, Tyler Mereness; girlfriend, Marina Sachs; maternal grandmother, Karen Sweet; paternal grandparents, Dewayne and Elena Mereness; paternal great-grandmother, Gladys Martagon; niece, Ava String; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 10:00AM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 4:00-7:00PM at the funeral home.
